I met Jerry in the 5th grade at Roland Grade School. We both stuck out like a sore thumb. We didnt have the household last name the town knew and respected so he had a tough few years. Jerry was clean cut, shirt tucked in, " beardless boy" then.. I was a super dork myself. We really didnt have much choice but, to talk to each other because we had no one else at the time. He was so street smart even back then, he convinced me and a guy name Charles that he knew all these fighting arts. So everyday we would practice this stuff on the playground while everyone else was playing basketball and chasing girls. Jerry would also do back flips and crazy stuff off the playground equipment. He made these swords and we would train with them on the playground. No way a kid could get away with that now but, back then it was accepted or they didnt care what we did to one another. One day a mentally challenge girl was getting made fun of by a football player a couple grades a head of us and Jerry confronted him about his actions. On thing led to another and Jerry did a jumping spin kick to this guys head. Everyone saw it and was blown away. The following Monday he had several new students in his playground martial arts class wanting to learn what he did. Jerry was good at anything he wanted to do at one point he was an artist, a drummer, a singer, and he proved after two years of pain he was a fighter. After a few years in school what we looked like and dressed like was in style so we had a following and we had respect. Jerry and I always remained friends. He would catch me out and tell whoever I was with about the sword fighting. This would usually chase off any girl trying to talk to me. lol .. he would just laugh about doing it over and over.. Jerry supported music! He would come watch me regardless of where I was. Jerry and I stayed up all night on my dads deck a few years ago talking untll 9AM. He spoke alot about people and past things.. He loved people! People loved him! Much LOVE FOR HIM !
