Crawford County in general and Van Buren in particular have produced more than their share of memorable characters over the years. Darrell was one of the more colorful, to say the least. From the time that he lived across 10th Street from the golf course until the last time I saw him, he never failed to greet me with that big trademark smile, ask about my folks, and make me think being from VB made me a member of some sort of exclusive club (we shared the same railroad heritage). We will all miss him, but his memory will live on.
