Dalton Harold  Barnes
Dalton Harold Barnes fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. He is survived by this wife, Krysteen Barnes of the home; two daughters, Cathy Rollinson and husband Martin of Mountainburg, Arkansas, Sheila Barnes of Fort Smith, AR; three grandchildren, Alison Rollinson, Bradley Barnes Wilson and Meagham Moore and one great grandchild, Jacob Moore

Born in abject poverty in Alco, Arkansas in 1927, Dalton Barnes attended a one room school house until the eighth grade. In order to attend high school, he moved to live with his aunt in Mt. View. The day after graduation, when he was just seventeen years old he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University and was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and a U.S. Army Chaplain. He spent his life in loving service to Christ, his family, his community, and his country. From the U.S. Army, he received a Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Award, an Air Medal (for participation in flights over combat zones), an Army Commendation Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, a World War II Victory Medal, a National Defense Medal (one for the Korean War, one for the Vietnam war), an American Expedition Medal (for service in Berlin during the building of the Berlin Wall); an Army Reserve Medal, three Vietnam Campaign Medals (three Bronze, one Silver), a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and a Vietnam Defense Medal.
After retiring from the Army, he served as the first Police Chaplain for the Oklahoma City Police Department and obtained a doctorate degree from Philips Theological Seminary in Pastoral Counseling. When he retired from the Police Department, he and his wife moved to Alma where he served as Pastoral Counselor at the First Baptist Church of Alma. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alma Boys and Girls Club and was a devoted volunteer at the Club.

The funeral will be held at Alma First Baptist Church on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma with interment at 2:00 p.m. in the U.S. National Cemetery with military honors. The family will visit with friends at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church Visitors Center before the service.

Pallbearers will be the Military Honor Guard.
