Summer Memories

I have many many memories of Jamie. I have known him since he was a young boy, as his my mom and mine were best friends. I watched him grow up along side my brothers from a chubby, awkward boy into an extremely confident, very handsome man. When I was 18, I got my first car and agreed to take Jamie and my three brothers to the drive in movie in Poteau. I think he was about 7 years old. I took them out for ice cream and Jamie dug a hole all the way through the cup with his spoon but he was too scared of me to say anything so for the whole ride home, the ice cream leaked from the bottom and seriously all over the seat and floorboard of my new car. I yelled so much at him!

Many years and memories later, he was about 17, Jamie and my brothers were staying the night at my house as he had done pretty often. I think he spent almost that whole summer with us. One of the boys got out my boxing gloves and I knocked Jamie backwards and he flipped over the couch! He swore he let me win. Jamie helped plant the garden that year, we went swimming almost every day, and I think Nana might have caught him and the boys smoking pot behind the barn haha. Those are my most favorite memories of him. That summer.

Jamie was a badass. And most people never got to see his true nature; that loving, caring, and tender side of him that was really still just a boy. I know in my heart, that my God opened his arms to Jamie and called him home and that Jamie is seated there at his right hand. I believe my Momma was standin right there to meet him and show him the way.

He will always hold a special place in my heart.
