Dorance Dudley  Damron
Dorance Dudley Damron, 82, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 in a local hospital. He was born in Burkesville, KY to Marcus and Theresa (Beck) Damron. He was a retired pharmacist and former owner of Laws Drug Store, also retired from the real estate business with lifelong friends Jack Glover and Eddie Laws, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a previous board member of the Fort Smith History Museum, a past commissioner of War Memorial Football Stadium and a member of the Noon Civics Club. Dorance was active in Republican politics beginning in the early 1960’s, serving as a past Chairman of the Sebastian County Republican Party and a past Chairman of Republican Party Appointments Committees under Governor Mike Huckabee. He also served as a past chairman of the Sebastian County Draft Board and on the Governors commission for hiring the handicapped. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he previously served as a deacon.
Funeral services will be 11AM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Oak Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann of the home, one daughter, Tracy Ann Damron of Little Rock, AR; two sons, David Damron and his wife Karen of Fort Smith, AR and James G. Damron and his wife Shawn of Gravette, AR; one sister, Daphine Kendrick of Hurst, TX; six grandchildren, Emily Beaty and her husband Jon of Fort Smith, AR, John Damron of Fayetteville, AR; Leslie Cockmon of Fayetteville, AR, Allen Damron of Tulsa, OK; Parker Damron of Fayetteville, AR and Beck Damron of Gravette, AR and two great grandchildren, Brooke Beaty and Willow Alshareef.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 5-7PM Monday at the funeral home.
