Obituary for Margaret Wilma Watson (Plenz)

Margaret Wilma Watson, 94, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 17, 2023. She was born on April 30, 1929, in Olivia, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew and Mary Virginia (Cunningham) Plenz and by her beloved husband, Ralph B. Watson. She lived in Casa Grande, Arizona where she graduated high school and then later attended the University of Arizona in Tucson with a focus on home economics. Her love of music shone through her beautiful singing voice and astute piano skills. She moved back to Casa Grande in 1953 and met Ralph the next year. They were married on May 2, 1954 and shared 64 amazing years together. Ralph and Margaret lived on their cotton farm outside of Casa Grande. She was a homemaker and mother to six children. In 1966 the family moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas and opened The Spanish Kitchen, more than just a Mexican restaurant, it became the gathering place for wonderful food, customers and employees that widened her family circle, and legendary card games. Later she found her creative passion and talent for all things arts and crafts when she opened The Strawberry Patch. She and Ralph semi-retired and moved to Fort Smith in 2000 where she continued to craft her crafts, share her love of card playing, cook your favorite dish, welcome you to her charming home, and even learn how to email and engage with social media. She strived throughout her life journey to evolve her ability to love unconditionally. One of her trademark sayings was “I love you and… I like you!” The comfort and peace she found in her faith was steady and bright.
Her family was everything to her. She is survived by her son, Gary Mercer (Edie) of Sun Lakes, Arizona; five daughters, Diane Cardell of Clyde Park, Montana, Linda Bisbee (David) of Rogers, Arkansas, Candice Serafin (David) of Peachtree City, Georgia and Holly Nethers (Dick) and Laurie Watson both of Fort Smith. She was a very special and loving Grandma to Michele, Christy (Greg), Christopher (Randi), Shana (Scott), Rebecca (Adam), Dirk (Joellen), Brooke (Steve), Zack, Carla (Billy), Lauren, Scott, Lori (Mike), Dirk (Carrie), Cody, Jason and Sara (Josh). She was a beloved “GG” to her great-grandchildren Kylie, Andrew, Sierra, Rayna, Nycole, Riley, Samuel, Jackson, Mitchel, Anna, Aimee, Allyson, Jon, Mason, Ryan, Alexis, Hannah, Harper, Samantha (Matt), Richard (Emma), Steven, Nathan, Katelyn, Grant, Josiah, Grayson, Olivia and her great-great-grandchildren Rylie, Turner, Connor and Mia. She was more than just Aunt Margaret to so many nieces and nephews and a friend that everyone truly cherished.
