Obituary for JR Joyce

J.R. Joyce, passed away February 17, 2023 in Van Buren, Arkansas. He was born January 20, 1937 in Huntington, Arkansas, to Lillian (McInturf) and John Reubin Joyce. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Homer Chamberlain, his sisters Lucille and Sue, and his brother Robert Daley.

J.R. graduated Alma High School and jointed the Navy in May 1955. He married Joyce Belt in August 1955, after completing a twenty-year career in the Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer and then returned to Arkansas. He lived in Fort Smith for a brief period, then Sherwood, Arkansas before returning to the family farm in Alma. He loved his country and his family. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and working with young people, especially Little League Baseball in which he coached for several years. He also taught Adult Sunday School for fifteen years at Dyer Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Joyce (Belt) Joyce; sons Matthew and his wife Linda of Alma, John C. and his wife Melissa of Vilonia, Jay P of Van Buren; one daughter Cynthia St. Clair and husband Keith of Iraann, Texas; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Dyer Baptist Church Monday, February 27, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation to follow.
