Obituary for Garnet Montgomery Watts (Montgomery)

Garnet Montgomery Watts, January 19, 1934 - August 2, 2023. Garnet was born in Louisiana to Coralie Gilfoil Montgomery and John Field Montgomery. She graduated Tallulah High School and Louisiana State University prior to working as a medical technologist. She wed John Comer Watts, Jr., and they celebrated 67 years of marriage in June of this year. Garnet was active in her church and community. Dear to her heart were P.E.O. Chapter F, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Junior League of Fort Smith and St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. She loved helping people, especially the elderly and those in need.
Garnet is survived by her husband John; children John III (Kenna), Coralie (Jeff), Monty; grandchildren John IV (Caroline), Coralie, Carly, Hannah, Field, Sarah, Claire; great-grandson John V; brother Field (Cindy), and beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A memorial service will be at St. Bartholomew’s, Monday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. Private burial will be at a later date in Fort Smith National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Garnet requested that memorials be made to St. Bartholomew’s, 2701 Old Greenwood Road; or Fort Smith Public Library, 3201 Rogers Avenue, both in Fort Smith, AR, 72903; or the charity of your choice.
