Obituary for Billie Jo Johnson (Cain)

Billie Jo Johnson, 89, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 in a local hospital. She was born in Idabel, Oklahoma to Ira Lois and Gertrude Ruth Cain. She was a registered nurse retiring from Crawford County Health Department. Billie had worked at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Sparks and the Sebastian County Health Department. She was a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church, the DAR and the Red Hat Society. Billie was a member and past president of the Eagles FOE 208 chapter in Fort Smith and the Spiro Chapter 3680. She was presented the “Key to the City” in June of 2000 by Mayor Ray Baker for her volunteer work benefiting the city of Fort Smith.
Funeral service is 10:00AM, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Haven Heights Baptist Church with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, Arkansas under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 6th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Alex and Wade Hargis, Jr., Cassie Brambl-Harper, Chris and James Tate, Shane McKinney.
She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Hargis (Wade) of Keota, OK, Sherri Tate of Fort Smith, AR and Laurie Brambl (Dennis) of Pocola, OK; a son, Michael Ray Johnson of Fort Smith, AR; two sisters, Myra Cosgrove of San Diego, CA and Sharah Pace “Daryl” of Royce City, TX; 10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
