Obituary for Mary Ann Lyon (Coppic)

Mary Ann Lyon, 99, formerly of Fort Smith, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 4, 2021. Mary Ann was born on May 25, 1921 in Fort Smith to John and Nora (Strozier) Coppic. She lived most of her life in Fort Smith and was a graduate of Fort Smith High School in 1939. She married Thomas M. Lyon on August 18, 1940 and was joined in union with him for 60 years until his death in 2000. She was very active in her church, Central Presbyterian of Fort Smith, serving in several leadership roles and as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, a daughter, Betty Sue Lyon Ruark, a grandson, John Shane Ruark, her brother, John M. Coppic and a sister, Robbie Maciejack.
Funeral services are 1:00PM, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Burial will be private in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
She is survived by her four sons, Jim Lyon and his wife Louella of Bartlett, TN, David Lyon and his wife Kathy of Madison, WI; John Lyon and his wife Susan of Van Buren, AR and Clifford Lyon and his wife Jane of Van Buren, AR; a sister, Betty Sullivan of MI; a son in law, Clayton Ruark of Sallisaw, OK; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 2901 Rogers Ave. Fort Smith, AR 72901 or to the charity of your choice.
The family of Mary Ann wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Memory Lane in Van Buren for their love and care for the last years of her life. They have been family to her and truly reflected their love and compassion in their actions and words. God bless all the staff and caregivers who helped make her final years on the earth a blessing to her and her family.
