Obituary for Robert Stephens Laser

Robert Stephens Laser, 94, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died on Thursday, December 3, 2020, in Fort Smith Arkansas. He was born on October 2, 1926 in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Albert Wolfe and Esther (Stephens) Laser. He grew up in Forrest City, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Oregon State University (while in the US Army) and was in the first graduating class of the University Of Arkansas School Of Architecture. He was a founding partner in Laser, Knight, Hathaway, and Guest architectural firm in Fort Smith.

He was a longtime member of Goddard Memorial United Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club, was a member of the Noon Civics Club, and was a great supporter of the arts. He was an avid tennis player at the Fort Smith Tennis Club, a sailor, and world traveler. His post-retirement life was enriched by his close relationship with the teachers and students at Sutton and Cavanaugh schools. He was a wonderful family man, husband, and father, and was loved by many.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, daughter, Christie Ann, and brothers Albert Wolfe, Jr. and James.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Hixson (Richard) of Little Rock, son Robert Stephens Laser, Jr. (Shana) of Fort Smith, brother David Nelson Laser (Ann) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and sister Esther Paul (Tom) of Webster, New York.

Cremation is under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held at Goddard Columbarium at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the University Of Arkansas School Of Architecture (Robert Laser scholarship fund), Goddard Memorial United Methodist Church, The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Smith, or a charity of your choice.
