Ima Jean Taylor, 87, of Alma drifted from this earthly life to her heavenly home Wednesday night, October 14th after a 2 week battle with Covid-19. She was met by Jesus and joined by her husband, Bobby Clinton Taylor and many other relatives and friends who had gone on before. Mrs. Taylor was born June 23, 1933 in Clayton, Oklahoma to Horace and Lola Belle Martin. She spent most of her life in Alma, Arkansas. Ima had been confined to Alma Health and Rehab for 17 years, and was the only resident to be there that long. She was a positive thinker and an encourager to others. Ima could not walk without assistance but can walk again on streets of gold. She spent her days reading often in her Bible and more recently working on embroidery cross stitch quilt blocks for her great grandchildren. Ima was a longtime member of Alma First Baptist Church where she and Bobby were married in May, 1952, shortly after graduation from Alma High School.
Ima was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Taylor; her parents and one brother, Kenneth Martin.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie Russell and husband, Darrel of Little Rock; one son, Johnny Taylor and wife, Pat of Alma; 4 grandchildren, Courtney, Hillary, Melissa and Kenneth; 9 great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ryan, Kyle, Sadie, Sophie, Nathan, Danielle, Kyle and Christian; 6 Great Great Grandchidren; two sisters, Ruby Ball and Rosa Clark. Extender family includes 2 sisters-in-law, Wanda Belt of Alma, Sharon Wilson of Van Buren and brother-in-law, Jackie Taylor of Alma and several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service is planned at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
