Obituary for Vera Evangeline Kurtz (Johnson)

Vera Evangeline Kurtz, 96, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in a local nursing home. She was born in Bock, Minnesota on July 18, 1922 to Fritz and Ellen (Southland) Johnson. After WWII she moved to Marysville, California where she met her husband Orville. In 1974 they relocated to Southern Wisconsin where Vera taught Algebra at Milton High School. In 1974 they moved to ranch in Red Oak, Oklahoma. After the death of her husband Orville, Vera moved to Fort Smith where she was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
The family will visit with friends from 4-6PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services are 11:00AM, Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Luke Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Candice Hechel and her husband Dennis of Cedar Park, TX; son, Randolph Kurtz and his wife Jackie of Chicago, IL; three granddaughters, Hallice Nugent of Denver, CO, Eva Kurtz Nelson of Kirkland, WA and Grace Kurtz Nelson of Chicago, IL and her sister, Enid of Phoenix, AZ.
