Obituary for James A "Jim" Teter

James A "Jim" Teter
Jim Teter, 89, of Fort Smith passed peacefully away on December 8th, 2018 from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. He was born January 11, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Lincoln and Lela (Fassea) Teter; he was an only child.
Jim was happiest in the company of those he leaves behind: Genie, his cherished wife of 63 years, his sons Jeff (Lysa) of Evergreen, Colorado, Jim (Sharon) of Vinemont, Alabama, Chris and David of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren: Jackie, Jeannie, Chase, Brock, Molly, Carolanne, Samantha and Andrew. The loyalty, love and friendship that he gave his wife, sons, mother and grandchildren was unending.
Jim attended Southwest High School and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He volunteered his service in the United States Army. Jim joined ABF Freight Systems (ArcBest) in 1978 through the acquisition of Navajo Freight Lines. He served in various sales roles until his retirement as VP/National Accounts in 1999; his career in the transportation industry spanned 45 years.
At home, he excelled at taking control of the TV remote during Razorbacks games, raking gumballs from sweet gum trees, grilling often, outsmarting squirrels and reading any political book he could get his hands on. Jim was a great listener, friend to many, respected all and loved his dogs. He was a member of National Industrial Transportation League, Fort Smith Police Auxiliary and the “Noon Civics Club.”
Cremation services provided by Ocker-Putman Funeral Home. Our family expresses their appreciation to the hospice teams at Mercy Care and Covington Court for their compassion and expert care.
