Obituary for Max Frederick Clayton

Max Frederick  Clayton
Max Frederick Clayton, Born September 22, 1927 in Berea, Nebraska departed life, May 20, 2018 in Fort Smith, AR. His parents were John Frederick Clayton and Lizzettie Florence James. Parents were married June 1, 1919 in Albion, Nebraska. They moved to Boise, Idaho in June of 1937 when Max was 9. He attended Cole School as a child and later graduated in June of 1945 from Boise High School. He was also one of the Boy Soldiers of World War II who lied about their age to serve in the military. Max was enlisted into the Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and San Diego, CA. When he was on leave he would build race cars from the 1930’s – 1940’s era. He owned a 1936 roadster and a 1939 Ford. He enjoyed working on cars and was a great mechanic. He met his wife to be, Ruby Marie Fryar, while in the Navy. They married in June 1958. He was in 3 Wars while in service, World War II, Korean Way and Vietnam War. He retired in early 1964. After marred they lived in Vacaville, CA where he built his retirement home in California and finished it in 1962 with over 4500 sq. feet. In early 1964 the family moved to Mulberry, AR in the middle of 1967 built another large brick retirement home, where he lived and called home until he was placed in a nursing home. He enjoyed working on cars and was a great carpenter, he loved watching Nascar Racing, he loved to talk and tell stories from the past that would last hours upon hours. He taught me the trade of mechanics and carpenter work, He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, sister Fern Marie, wife, Ruby Marie Fryar Clayton. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed CB radio, he made a lot of numerous friends. His CB handle was known as “Sea Dog”. He could reachout on his radio to friends in other countries.
He is survived by his sister, Vesta Drake of Wendell, ID; nephews Alvin, Max and Johnny Fryar all of Mulberry, AR; Gus and Sandra Smith of San Antonio, TX, Patty, Randy and Sissy of Canton, TX and several great nephews and great nieces and a lot of great friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Revis Hill Assembly of God Church with interment in Pope Cemetery with military honors. Services are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers include Max Fryar, Mark Warner, Sr., Alvin Fryar, Jr., Darrell Hattabaugh, Ricky Wallace and Johnny Fryar, Jr.
