Obituary for George Wilburn Word

George Wilburn Word, 84 of Mountainburg passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 in a local hospital. He was retired from the United States Army. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He had also worked at Gerber Foods in Fort Smith for over twenty years. During his twenty seven years of military service he received the Bronze Star Metal, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Campaign Metal and countless others. He was preceded in death by his parents John T. and Oma (Owens) Word, one sister Glenda Robinson and his wife Lois (Spence) Word.

Funeral services will be 11:30 Thursday, January 12, 2016 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at the Fort Smith U.S. National Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by one son Gregory Word and his wife Cheryl of Van Buren; two sisters Avis Smith of Mexia, Texas and Delma Crawford of Brady, Texas; three grandchildren Matthew, Jennifer and Jessica; four great-grandchildren.

Family will visit with relatives and friends Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Ocker Funeral Home 700 Jefferson Street Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be the military.
