Imelda Stanton  Cooksey (Corrotto)
Imelda Stanton Cooksey, 93, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in a local hospital. She was born on September 21, 1923 to William L. and Anna (Metzker) Corrotto in Fort Smith. She was a devout Catholic and was a graduate of St. Anne’s Academy. She was a former volunteer of the year for Project Compassion and a member of both the Fort Smith Country Club and Ben Geren Ladies Golf Associations. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William A. Stanton and Charles Cooksey, one son, William E. Stanton, eight brothers and four sisters. As Louise Rogers stated in a column she wrote, “She had a winning smile, good humor with wisdom combined with enthusiasm and a compassionate heart. She brought much joy to all who came in contact with her. She was a devout Catholic lady and enjoyed sharing her time to bring a measure of happiness to others.”
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike Stanton and his wife Patricia and Pat Stanton and his wife Donna all to Fort Smith; one daughter, Linda Berkowitz of Fayetteville, GA; a daughter in law, Mary Jo Stanton of Sherwood, AR; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jay and Kyle Berkowitz, Caleb, Colin and Cody Stanton, Dru Fenimore, Ret Taylor, Destin Layton and Rod Zerbe.
Rosary service is 6:00PM Friday, December 2, 2016 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, AR. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the rosary.
