Obituary for John Robert Couch

John Robert  Couch
Master Sergeant John Robert Couch, U.S. Army Special Forces, 82, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born on June 29, 1934 in Peoria, Arizona to Frank and Frances Ruth (Matthews) Couch. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Following retirement from the service he worked for the Civil Service at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and White Sands, New Mexico. He also taught R.O.T.C. at Northside High School and Southern College in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Special Operations Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Couch and his four sisters, Margie, Agnes, Doris and Fran and was of the Baptist Faith.
Memorial services are 11:00AM, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Cavanaugh Freewill Baptist Church with burial of cremains with military honors to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife Wilma, of the home; one son, Jeffrey Couch and his wife Betty of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Amber and Becky Couch both of Fort Smith and his step daughter, Linda Ruppert.
