Betty Garner  Nixon (Cox)
Betty Garner Nixon, 91, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on August 18, 2016 in a local nursing home. She was born in Greenwood, Arkansas to Ruben Cox and Icy Jones. She was a retired line worker at General Electric and had also worked at a local Day Care Center. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had been involved in the Women’s Ministry and had sung in the choir. She recently had been attending Rye Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Nixon and her sister, Frances Howard.
Funeral services are 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, Arkansas.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandie Wikman and her husband Willie and Denelta Tyler both of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three sisters, Billie Summer of Dumas, Texas and Mary Gail Stanfield and her husband Larry and Susan Cox both of Greenwood, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Pam Moore and her husband Jim, Tammie Kilgore and her husband Danny, Betty Montes and her husband William, Brandon Solley and his wife Charity, Carol Curlin and her husband Jim and Linda McColister and her husband Noah and several great and great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Whitley and Jordan Evans, Bradley Montes, Payton Solley, Phillip Fetters and Rodney Burkett.
The family will visit with friends from 5-7PM on Tuesday at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The family would like to thank both Mercy Hospice for their loving care and the entire staff of Methodist Nursing Home.
