O.D.   Frederick Jr.
O.D Frederick, Jr., 91, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, June 02, 2016 in a local nursing home. He was born on March 1, 1925 in Southard, Oklahoma to Oliver D. and Maggie (Wilder) Frederick. He was one of seven children and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He began his career as a disc jockey in Mena, AR. In 1959 he went to work for the Federal Aviation Agency as an electronic technician in Fort Smith. He retired in 1986. He had a talent for gardening and growing flowers. He could make any flower, plant, tree or vegetable grow. His favorite plant was the orchid, and he grew them for several years and won the orchid award from the city of Fort Smith. He was a Ham operator and loved competing in contests to see how many people he could contact in one weekend. He was also a huge Arkansas Razorback and Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved Shelties and always had one or two at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Mona Epperson Frederick.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, June 6, 2016 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith, Arkansas, burial at Woodlawn will be private. The family will visit with friends following the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by three daughters Susan Schmitz and her husband Rick of Fort Smith, AR, Patty Favre and her husband Dan of Muldrow, OK and Cathy Sanders and her husband Keith of Springdale, AR and two grandchildren Danielle Favre of Ketchikan, Alaska and Nick Favre of Muldrow, OK.
Mr. Frederick may be viewed from 11:00AM till 4:00PM on Sunday at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The family would like to thank Methodist Nursing Home for the love and care they gave to their father for the last 4 ½ years. He was treated as though he was their own father and his family will be eternally grateful.
