Jack R.   Ferrell
Jack R. Ferrell, 88, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on May 12, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born on August 25, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas to John and Pauline (Byrd) Ferrell. He was a U.S. Navy V5 Naval Aviation Cadet veteran of World War II. He attended Tulane University and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He retired in 1989 as a branch manager from Frank Lyon Company of Fort Smith, Arkansas which served Northwest Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma. During his 32 year career Franklin Lyon Company was recognized as one of the most successful wholesale distributors in the country and was singled out for recognition by Whirlpool Corporations for “best in the US” some 19 times and by RCA receiving the Mesa Award. Franklin Lyon was based out of Little Rock with branches in six states. Jack was dedicated to family and had faith in the Supreme Being. He enjoyed history, classical music, fishing, golf, nature and most of all his dogs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bobbye Ferrell.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He is survived by his two sons, John S. Ferrell and his wife Gail of Van Buren, AR and Dr. Jeffery B. Ferrell and his wife Alayna of Fort Smith, AR; three grandchildren, Ashley Robinson and her husband Tim of Bentonville, AR, Maggie Murray and her husband Ryan of Springfield, MO and Josh Ferrell of Fort Smith, AR; two step grandchildren, Lauren Terkel and her husband Mike and Natalie McNeil all of Plano, TX and three great grandchildren, Nico Murray and Jackson and Ava Terkel.
The family will visit with friends from 2-4PM on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Sebastian County Humane Society 3800 Kelley Highway, Fort Smith, AR 72904.
