Obituary for Mary Jane Broyles (Tillery)

Mary Jane Broyles (Tillery)
Mary Jane Broyles, 88, of Fort Smith passed away on Saturday August 1, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born August 13, 1926 in the Jethro Community to the late Eugene and Sena Tillery. She was married to Richard M. Broyles on April 10, 1953 in Fort Smith. Mary was a member of the West-Ark Church of Christ.
She was a loving wife and mother. Mom was a Christian women who loved helping others. She was a Sunday School Teacher to the 5 year olds for several years. “Miss Mary” loved her kids and they always remained special to her. Mom loved gardening both flowers and vegetables and the meals prepared in her kitchen were the best. She also liked to sew and was always making pretty clothes for her daughters in their youths and teens. Although she only went through the 8th grade, education was important to her. In later years she obtained her GED thru the Fort Smith Adult Education Program. She always took an active role in her daughter’s education, serving in PTA at Trusty Elementary, Darby Junior High and Northside High School. She also served as President of the Fort Smith PTA Council.
Mary and Richard were avid Razorback fans and had season tickets to football games for nearly 50 years. While the dementia took away many memories, one thing remained constant, the Razorback Hog Call. It was not uncommon to hear her leading the” Woo Pig Sooie” at Chapel Ridge.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Richard, brothers Howard and Clifford Tillery, half-sister Audie Mae Funk, step-mother Erva Tillery and sister-in-law Martha Tillery.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Beverly McMillin of Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Cynthia Remler of Fort Smith; two sister-in-laws Dorothy Tillery of Fort Smith and Winifred England of Seminole, OK; four grandchildren, several great grandchildren nieces and nephews and special friends Mildred Johnson and Wanda Blaylock.
The Family would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone at Chapel Ridge Health and Rehab for the care, love and compassion shown to Mary.
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday August 5, 2015 at West-Ark Church of Christ with private burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Matt Carson, Stan Burkhart, Gary Brown, David Honeyman and Dr. Michael Callaway.
