Obituary for Marie Lawrence McAlpin (Morgan)

Marie Lawrence  McAlpin (Morgan)


Marie McAlpin, 89, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015 in a Poteau nursing home. She was born in Liberty, Oklahoma to Andrew and Alice (Barker) Morgan. She was a retired LPN. During her career she had worked for both Sparks Hospital and Dr. Keck and when she retired she worked for OBGYN and Associates as Dr. Phillips nurse. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Lawrence and J.W. McAlpin, two sons, Thomas and John Lawrence, one daughter, Joann McAlpin and three brothers and three sisters. Marie was a kind and loving Christian lady. She had a special love for children and the six “Lawrence” children got the privilege of her guiding hand and love from a very early age after their own mother’s death. Marie was also very proud of being elected Miss Covington Court.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith with a burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Ford and her husband Jerry of Poteau, OK and Debbie Warren and her husband Larry of Van Buren, AR; six sons, Timothy Lawrence and his wife Connie of Shawnee, OK, Able Lawrence and his wife Sandy of Fort Smith, AR, Larry Lawrence and his wife Naomi of Houston, TX; Ricky McAlpin and his wife Patricia of Cameron, OK, Dicky McAlpin of Fort Smith, AR and David McAlpin and his wife Danita of North Carolina; one brother, Leonard “Junior” Morgan of Muldrow, OK; one daughter in law, Darlene Lawrence of Tulsa, OK; 24 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends from 5-7PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
