Obituary for Lynn Daniel Lisk

Lynn Daniel  Lisk
Dr. Lynn Lisk, 54, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in his home. He was the Director for the Paralegal Studies Program at The University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Dr. Lisk was born on August 13, 1960 in Dallas, Texas to the Reverend Dr. Richard and Joanne Lisk. Dr. Lisk graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Ouachita Baptist University. He also held a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s William H. Bowen School of Law.

Since 2004, Lisk served as director of the paralegal studies program at UAFS, the first program in the state to receive American Bar Association approval. Previously, Lisk was a practicing attorney in the Little Rock area. He also served as a law clerk for both the Arkansas Supreme Court and the Arkansas Workers Compensation Commission. In 1998, he was named one of the Best Lawyers in Arkansas in a survey conducted by the Arkansas Times. He also currently serves on the Arkansas Supreme Court’s Committee on Continuing Legal Education and was the former Chairman of the Arkansas Supreme Court’s Ethics Committee.

Dr. Lisk had also been heavily involved in legal pedagogy, having prepared materials for and led accredited continuing legal education seminars for practicing attorneys. He was regularly interviewed by local television stations as a legal expert and participated in the university’s Speakers Bureau.

Dr. Georgia Hale, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, said Lisk’s legacy lies in the successes of his students “Lynn had a deep love for UAFS and an unparalleled dedication to his students. This is evident by his long list of University service activities and his student-centered attitude. He had a strong connection with his students and was instrumental in getting several of them to attend law school,” Hale said. “The UAFS community will miss Lynn and the value he added to the university and to our lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out for his family.”

Dr. Lisk was also an active member of Rye Hill Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher. He was preceded in death by his father the Reverend Dr. Richard Lisk and one sister, Nietta Lisk.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, May 13, 2014 at Community Bible Church at 9201 Dallas Street in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife Ann , two sons, Samuel and Solomon Lisk and his mother, Joanne Lisk-Golden all of Fort Smith, and his brother, Rick Lisk of North Little Rock, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rye Hill Baptist Church building fund, 11512 Old Highway 71, Fort Smith, Arkansas and to the Lynn Lisk Memorial Fund for his children through Arvest Bank Rye Hill Branch account # 0081610024 Fort Smith, Arkansas.
