Roger William Benham, 67, of Mulberry, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, in a local hospital. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mulberry, a retired school teacher, starting his teaching career at Lamar Schools, retired from Mulberry Public School System in 1996, after 25 + years as Principal and Superintendent, he later went back to work as Elementary Prinicipal at Ozark where he retired a second time. He was born January 31, 1947, in Chickasha, OK. Preceded in death by his father, A.G. Benham and his first wife, Beverly Benham.
Roger, a highly respected and beloved man, impacted the lives of many students and families throughout decades of both educational and community involvement. He leaves a legacy of a wonderful friend, coach, teacher, UMY coulselor and, especially, a loving husband, son, father and family member.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Benham of the home; his mother, Dorothy Benham of Mulberry, AR; one daughter, Nicole Shoemake and husband Jake of Centerton; two step daughters, Mary Joslin and husband, Dustin of Mulberry, Sarah House of Fayetteville, AR; one son, Grant Benham and companion Tammie Taylor of Mulberry, AR; two step sons, Jason House and wife Jennifer and Joshua House all of Mulberry, AR; one sister, Sue Plattner-Smith and her late husband Greg of Fort Smith, AR; one brother, Ron Benham and Wife Elaine of Cambridge, MA; one Sister-in-Law, Sherry Stockton of Mulberry, AR; 5 grandchildren, Hayden, Noah, Jarrett, Aaron and Jacob.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Mulberry with interment in New Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma, AR.
Pallbearers will be Adam, Ross, Brad and Seth Plattner, Larry Smither, Hayden Shoemake and Noah Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Kerry Bob King, Stevie King, John Wilcox, Vince Grober, Wayne Grober, Harold Hill and John Dunham.
